The big problem with this book was that I had forgotten I hadn't yet read Deception, which meant that many things flew over my head and I spent half my time wondering when these shit happened and I wasn't there. Plotwise, this book was awesome. The vampire politics, the challenges for the seat of the South Lord, the alliances and the betrayals were exactly what I've come to expect from Reynolds. Both, the overall and this particular book's plot were well developed and interesting. The romance aspect on the other hand, although not bad, wasn't what I've come to expect from Reynolds. The author has spoiled me with her independant, kick-ass heroines so when the more mundane version came along I wasn't as taken with her as I was with some of the previous ones. Natalie was submissive by nature but she could hold her own if push came to shove. Still, I prefer the more stubborn, shoot first ask questions later, heroines in PNR and Reynolds usually delivered. Christian on the other hand was drool-worthy and his most awesome characteristic was his confidence. I enjoyed how sure of his power he was and how he didn't let anything get in the way of what he wanted. I generally liked this book very much but I will be re-reading after I read the previous one so some things(like Cyn's animosity towards Christian) can be put into perspective!

After coming off the high of Deception, a 5-star read for me, this one felt like a miss. I love this series so much, and for me to give anything less than 4-stars is rare. My main issue here wasn't the plot (which was exciting and furthered the overall arc of the series nicely), but the romance, which didn't work for me. To start, I didn't like Natalie as a protagonist. I have a thing against girls who are clearly beautiful but portray themselves as these shy little maidens. Girls like Natalie, with a killer body, a gorgeous face, and smarts, should not be acting like insecure, whiny girls if they want my support. She just irked me, and I never got behind her as a character. I also didn't see evidence of the so-called crazy intelligence of Natalie. I felt like the author was trying to make her geeky and likable but failed on that front. The romance between Christian (who was also not fully appealing to me) and Natalie was waaaay too instalove for my taste. It felt rushed, and I just didn't buy them as a couple. I wanted to love them but I simply didn't. Despite the fact that I didn't love this one, it doesn't change the fact that this is one of my favorite series. I can't wait for the next one because it sounds like it is going to be awesome. **Copy provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Vampires keep what the win, and a new European player is set to conquering the recently up for grabs Southern American territory. But Christian Duvall is not the only one who’s set his sights on Texas, the vast and rich territory and more than that, on the smart and sexy forensic accountant that currently resides at the heart of it. The powerful and alluring Christian must not only fight old and new enemies that have converged against him with treachery and a vast zombie vampire army, he must navigate the existing American vampire alliance and to top it off, his attraction and sense of protection and possessiveness also demands he fight for his number one enemy’s charmingly recalcitrant accountant Natalie Vivant Gaudet. “I am always in charge, Natalie. Remember that in a few hours, when you’re screaming my name.” Can Natalie show the aspiring Lord of the South that even though naïve to the vampire world, it is he she wants to be with and is willing to fight with everything she’s got to protect and stay with him? I discovered and fell in love with D.B. Reynold’s Vampires in America a while back when all I wanted to read had to be fang related. With every book I learned that within the same world and having all badass alphas, each character’s story was unique, Christian and Natalie’s is no exception to this. Theirs was intensely instalovey fraught with another vampire’s desire to keep Natalie as his even against her will. “The real Natalie was the one whose heart had been in her eyes when he’d touched her earlier, who’d been grantica to warn him about Anthony, even though they’d barely exchanged ten words before that.” Besides having a very sure of himself, domineering personality, the French rake who was tamed by Natalie’s Southern charm, this story has all the elements of a good entertaining read. It has an elaborate plot where the bad guys come out from everywhere, there’s good banter between the characters sometimes featuring their sass and humor and others the seriousness of their situation tempered with very smexy times and of course all the cameos by awesome heroes and heroines from past books. Raphael and Cyn or “Sin” have been my all-time favorite vampire couple in this series, but I especially loved having some extra time with Lana and Vincent who have continued to grow as a couple in this world of powerful vampires. Even though Christian and Natalie get their happy, the book is left with an intriguing cliffhanger regarding previous main character Sophia and her mate. “Vincentt stepped into the room, his gaze tracked unerringly to the birthday girl. Lana Arnold, human, bounty hunter, the love of his life.” Christian is book #10 in the Vampires in America series by D.B. Reynolds. This is a standalone full length paranormal romance novel, told from several points of view. Amazon -> http://amzn.to/1O90hWI * I was given an ARC of this book courtesy of the author via NetGalley. He was sin and temptation, and the promise of sexual ecstasy that few ever experienced.” I feel hard for him 27% into his book with just this one gesture.... He cupped her cheek in one big hand, his fingers spearing back into her hair, as he stepped even closer. “Are you in trouble, chère?” “Merde!” Christian cursed. “I knew I should have called sooner.” Putting his arm around her, he guided her over to a chair, as if afraid she'd lose her way, or maybe fall over, if he left her on her own.” **insert heavy sigh (from me)** Natalie's a spirited Cajun/Creole forensic accountant from New Orleans who's somewhat snarky, very independent, and doesn't take orders very well (as Christian soon learns). She's also stubborn, extremely intelligent and beautiful. She's hired to sniff out where all the money went that evil vile Lord Jabril Karim stole from the young Hawthorn heiresses and she works closely with Anthony. She definitely gives Christian a run for his money, they fit well together and OH.GOOD.LORD.....their chemistry is completely off the charts! The war between the North American and European vampires is once again front and center with the fight over the South Territory. When Lord Jabril was killed, Raphael appointed Anthony, a Master Vampire from New Orleans, as temporary Lord to hold the territory. Now with Anthony leaving to go home to New Orleans, the South up for grabs for a new Lord. Sides are taken, sinister plots are played out, secrets are discovered, new allies are made, new enemies are discovered, and loyalties are tested. Christian's book was non-stop action!! Several vampire Lords that we know and love from the series have cameos along with a couple of their mates. The epilogue is going to drive you crazy (as usual). It's short and teases you with just enough insight of what's to come that it will have you begging and pleading for D.B. Reynolds to release the next book....NOW....please!!!

Lord Anthony is stepping down, and plans to return to New Orleans. Christian has received Raphael’s backing; although Cyn still doesn't trust him, and actively dislikes him. When Christian first appears at Anthony’s estate, he meets Anthony’s luscious accountant Natalie; and it’s lust at first sight, with all the requisite bodily reactions. He also finds that not only is he to face several (expected) contenders for the territory; he is being hit with an unexpected animosity from Anthony himself, even though Anthony is willingly leaving. Christian also finds that the stakes are even higher than he suspected. This leads to backstabbing, attempts on his life, and threats of war. Christian was a lot of fun to read, as expected. D B Reynolds ‘Vampires in America’ series started out as UF, then began veering towards straight PNR. The tide is turning back to UF it seems; with all the politics and infighting going on (which makes me very happy), and Christian is a mix of the genres. There was a couple of nicely done catching-up scenes with the leads of past books, and a mystery involving Sophia was set up; probably a leadup to another novella. Another great read in one of my favorite series. In the beginning of the story Christian came off as a bit of a metrosexual Vampire (his and Marc’s discussion on latte was a hoot); but as the story went on, he was all badass powerful vampire, as well as a little kinky. I’m really liking the direction the series seems to be heading. The stories are meatier, with lots of vamp politics and war mixed in with the love stories. -------------------------------------- Love this series; but I'm soooo over all the headless chest covers in CR, RS, and especially PNR. So ready to move on from this particular cover fad.

But when he reaches the headquarters of the current Lord of the South he is in for a few surprises. It's been a while since I've read anything in this series, and I'm not sure why, this book has fostered a desire to go back and re-read the books I’ve already read and read those I haven’t. Whilst this may not be my favourite it was overall a very enjoyable/fun read. There were moments between Christian and Natalie that had me smiling and smirking. A note of caution the romance between the two main characters is pretty insta, there’s no layering or steady development, within the context of this book I didn’t mind it. One small thing, I would have loved to see some potent evidence of the crazy intelligence Natalie is meant to embody, I think the author could have provided us with some rocking scenes, which could have also added a nice layer to the author’s depiction of Natalie. 99p on Amazon 8th June 2019

Not that she's bad or stupid, but she's so very delicate human, even if I must admit that she tried hard to act in a logical way and to trust Christian. She's nothing similar to Aden's Sidonie which I hated with a vengence, but she's nothing like Cyn or Lana either. The story, as I came to expect from this series, is great! Full of action and interesting tidbits of vampire lore and Vampire Lords' powers. I'm so looking forward to what will happen with Sophia and Colin!!!

Christian had a lot of women who he frequently shared with his best friend and only "child" Marc. At one point I thought they'd share Natalie too but thankfully vampire possessiveness reared it's beautiful head. The usual violence occurs as Christian battles for the territory and traitor's come put of the woodwork. In the end Christian was victorious and becomes the newest member of Raphael's alliance.

It was like the author couldn't decide how she wanted to portray her or did not have a clear picture of her. There were elements about her personality I liked. I wanted to connect to her. There just wasn't enough to make her really shine on the pages. Everytime her personality started to gain more depth, strength or richness it would suddenly just 'Stop'. It was like the author changed her mind mid scene & decided to have Natalie be, do or say something that didn't coincide with where she was going. I very much missed the Suspense, Mystery elements. The 'Bad Guy', Anthony was not depicted well enough until the very end to make you really hate him. Instead of him coming off as a villain, he came off as a self-centered person who made really dumb decisions. I had been looking forward to Christian's story since I read book #9. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. There is a lot of good in this one, but really it fell flat & felt rushed. I also found a few typo/editing errors. Soooo, the things I did like...... I like how intelligent Natalie is. Super smart lady. Loved that she was in a judo class and she isn't a novice. I liked that her best friend, Alon, runs the class that includes various martial arts & Krav Maga. I really like Christian & his 'Child' Marc. The adult scenes were definitely swoon worthy. Hot & steamy and 'Curl Your Toes' romantic. The 'Action' scenes were very well done. Just enough detail on weapons and detail to make you feel the intensity of the situations. What is comes down to is this story needed more world & character building. Unnecessary areas pulled the story down and were boring. These areas needed to be used to amp up the intensity of the entire story. This is one of those instances where 3 stars is way to low. It is definitely better than that. But 4 seems to high to me. However, my true star rating is 3.75 and rounded up that becomes a 4. I liked it, but I definitely did NOT love it.

I'm sorry to say I was seriously underwhelmed. Christian and Natalie needed a love story, not unbeatable lust at first sight that for no reason at all became love. How? Why? They needed their own well developed plot. Nathalie made quite a few big choices for a guy she just met. Betrayal is a serious offence even if you don't really care about your boss. And Anthony was short circuited. I wouldn't have minded a better villain, if you have to make him insane rather than cruel I need more meat. But wh I'm sorry to say I was seriously underwhelmed. Normally you don't feel this, but now the author is introducing magic to the mix, and the vamp battles are getting weirder. They need some serious backup. Same with Europe. I do perfectly understand this is Vampires in America, but if you choose to hint to the rest of the world, you need a story. Is Europe a wasteland? How's the relationship with humans? The "euro trash vamp" (unfortunate word choice) can't live in a void... Finally I'm disappointed by what Cyn has been made into. She's a very clever woman who, for the sake of the story, made a couple of unbelievable and out of character choices. Both of them with potentially disastrous consequences. She lives and breathes politics... I will try to read it a second time and see if it can change my opinion. 02/13/2019 I did read it a second time and my opinion didn't improve. I think this is where this series started to weaver and roll (sex rather than story). It might have been better if it had been stopped at book #9.

Christian is the 10th book in the series "Vampires in America". The story line was engaging, progressing, and action packed like always. Other than that the story itself was pretty good and I cant wait to see what happens next.

I feel supremely deficient giving this book. As with other reviews I might have provided my personal brand of recap for the story but I cannot and will not do that with Christian. There was soooooo (yes, the "Os" are important) embedded in this story that I would be provide a woefully inadequate recap of all the goings on. Reynolds dialed it way up with Christian's story. Book 10 in the Vampires in America series is rife with deception, subterfuge, alliances, and Reynold's trademark alpha male lord and a smart and sassy woman who manages to "tame" him. I loved the dynamic between Christian and Natalie. Sparks flew between them from the very beginning of the story. And although Natalie at first seems like an atypical heroine for Reynolds, her brand of strong heroine quickly shines through as she races toward helping Christian find out what's really happening with Anthony, the lord of the South. I really enjoyed how the story was crafted around Anthony and his ascension to being the Southern Lord after Jabril's "retirement." You didn't much about the southern territory after Jabril, which was book 2 of the series, and I kind of put it out of my mind as "story over" after that. I was supremely impressed by how the territory was reintegrated into my mind. Christian is an unlikely contender for the southern territory since he was one of the Europeans who was sired by Raphael's enemy Mathilde (that story occurs in Deception). Needless to say, not one of Raphael's allies trusted Christian's emergence onto the America vampire scene, but Raphael, ever the strategist, saw how much of an ally that Christian could and would be to him. This story was expertly written, and the twists and turns and bad guys popping up left and right, left me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire story. And can I just add that the little the teaser at the end about Sophia will you desperate to know "what's next". I am loving the direction that Reynolds is taking with the series and it's absolutely one of my favorites and one that I highly recommend to vampire romance lovers.

The Vampire Wars is heating up and we have a new battle for Vampire Lord, we also have Vincent and Lana's loose ends from the previous book all tied up...what is not to love? Christian just like all of DBR's alpha heroes is absolutely delicious and we meet two very yummy new vamps in Marco and Alon....I'll call dibs on Alon right now for the future because if DBR doesn't give us more of him I'm gonna fly to SCA and stalk her till she does *grin * ....Natalie I'm not as keen on as I was some of the other heroines in the series...she walks just shy of being TSTL and not as tough as Cyn, Lana and all. The story is fast paced with something happening every minutes with all the twists and turns we expect from DBR....Love Christian and love Vampires in America....how long til the next book???? huh huh huh??? 5 shining stars from a favourite author and the confidence that the next book will be as good as all the previous books! ...Don't miss out on Christian..it is available NOW!

Christian was an unknown at the start of the book, but I quickly fell for the prospective vampire lord. Natalie is a amazing women who has strength and integrity that I admire. This book is an amazing read and packed with action and adventure as all of her books are. I highly recommend this series to any vampire PNR fans and especially if you already love D.B.! Now I have to wait for more of this fabulous series!! LOVE IT!!!

Christian is book 10 in the Vampire in America series. I will start by saying D.B. Reynolds has done an awesome job keeping this series interesting and I do love where she is going and how Raphael has set all the chips into place for the coming wars. Now back to this book, Christian like all her vampires was super yummy. I really enjoyed everything about him. Natalie was ok she was cute but for me nothing else. So now my problem was with the romance which I felt was seriously lacking. I honestly Christian is book 10 in the Vampire in America series. I will start by saying D.B. That ending though has me anxious for the next book. ***ARC provided by NetGalley for review***

Intense, addictive, and scorching hot! The challenge has begun as several master vampires throw down to claim the Lord of the South title. Insanely sexy, possessive, hypnotic - Christian Duvall exudes bad*ss, alpha male vampire as do most of the vampire heroes in the Vampires In America books. They should all come with a warning! Natalie is a spunky heroine, and I liked her although she walks a fine edge on a few TSTL moments. The chemistry and sexual encounters between her and Christian are explosive . . . and often! Appearances by past vampire lords and their mates enhances the plot line, as does the introduction of some new faces that I hope we see more of. Another Must Read in this series!

ACTION-PACKED, INTRIGUING, RIVETING!! D.B.Reynolds at her absolute BEST!! Yes, Christian is all of this and more; he will have readers so utterly enthralled they will burn the midnight oil till the last page is read. I know readers will be just as enamoured by Christian as I am, and that’s a huge call, as Raphael owns my heart. But there’s just something delectable about this alluring Frenchman with his magnetic appeal. But there’s just something delectable about this alluring Frenchman with his magnetic appeal. And as many times as I’ve thought that this series could not get any better; every time Ms Reynolds glories in proving me utterly wrong. A little about CHRISTIAN……. The European Vampires are breathing down North America’s neck, with the war for supremacy within the Vampire race now in full swing. Deception is around every corner and after the kidnap and torture of Raphael; the North American Vampire Lords are on high alert. But the time has come for Christian to make his presence known and enter the battle for leadership of the South and the much-coveted position of Vampire Lord, even if that means coming face to face with the most powerful Vampire known to man. It’s no secret that Raphael will play a huge part in deciding who is worthy of winning the ultimate prize that’s the South, as his alliances continue to grow among his peers. But with Christian’s undesirable link to the very woman who almost cost Raphael his very existence, he is subjected to Raphael’s penetrating scrutiny and Cyn’s unrelenting suspicion before he even walks through the door. Christian commands notice when he enters the room, with his charismatic French charm and devastating good looks, but when he arrives in the South and encounters Natalie Gaudet, he knows she is destined to be his. Smart, sassy and a vision of loveliness, Natalie captivates this formidable man from the moment they meet. But Christian must be constantly on his guard, as not only is a power struggle about to begin, but one of his rivals has designs of stripping him of more than just his pursuit of the South; someone wants what is ultimately not available, the woman that may very well be his destined his mate.

3/5; 3 stars; B Well, this was definitely the weakest one in the series to date. I still gave it 3 stars because I enjoyed it, or most of it but I have come to the conclusion that the author needs to wrap this series up. This book shows definite signs of rehashing parts of other books and very little forward movement in the plot. At the same time, there are hints of another nefarious plot shaping up in the VIA universe and this might get us back on track or just extend the slow decline. Things I liked about this book: -Glimpses of Raphael and Cyn as well as Vincent and Lana. -Christian and Marc and their relationship; reminded me of Raphael and Duncan in the early days. -the fact that sometimes Natalie thought about doing something really stupid but used some sense and talked herself out of it. Things I didn't like: -insta-love between Christian and Natalie, for no apparent reason -a feeling that many, many scenes were contrived not crafted. -no sense of continuity with the previous story about the Southern Lord's estate and the Hawthorne Heiresses. -there were repeated mentions of how smart Natalie was and the work she was doing in the forensic accounting area but no real story there; it seemed like a missed opportunity for character development.

4.5 Stars D B Reynolds knows how to write damn good paranormal/UF romance. I liked both protagonists - Natalie was no TSTL female, she used her smarts and her logic to help at crucial times, and Christian was all ruthless and suave vampire male, one with a French accent. Christian Duvall has come to North America from Europe for one reason: to become Lord of the South. He is not the only contender and his enemies are prepared to fight dirty by going after the smart and beautiful woman Christian has claimed as his own. Natalie's work as a forensic accountant has brought her into the world of vampires but it's Christian that makes her want to stay. As the danger heats up Natalie and Christian prepare to battle for the title of Lord and their lives. Unlike his maker Christian Duvall has come to North America from Europe for one reason: to become Lord of the South. Unlike his maker, who recently failed miserably in her attempt to take down Lord Raphael, Christian is ready to battle for the title of Lord of the South the vampire way. Meaning without trickery and to the death. This is part of what I love about Christian. He has respect for what it is to be a vampire and what it means to have the kind of power he has. It also doesn't hurt that he’s charismatic, hot as hell, and as lethal as any of the Lords before him. Is he the most original, bad ass hero that's every graced this series? No, but he holds his own without getting overshadowed.   Natalie is in Texas after accepting a position from Anthony, temporary Lord of the South, to figure out what Jabril, former Lord and one sick vampire, did with his ill-gotten gains. Natalie is a little geeky, a little sassy, a little sexy and brave enough that she will stand up for herself without crossing the line where she makes stupid decisions to prove she isn't weak. A pretty solid heroine that compliments Christian. The one thing that could have done her justice is to see her stand up more to Christian. He has a way of sweeping in and commanding and in her mind she would say 'oh hell no' but she stopped from actually staying it a lot of the time. A touch more spunk and attitude would have only worked in her favor.   Fans of the series really get to meet Anthony. My verdict? Disappointment but then he never came off as impressive so I guess it's about right. He's the type that thinks he's more powerful than he actually is and that his scheming will always unfold as he plans because he's just that damn good. Eh, not so much. The real villain of the story is a European vampire Lord who is up to no good in Mexico, making unstoppable zombie vampires. Yea, just as freaky as it sounds and a welcomed twist on the series norm. Both vampires help provide a healthy dose of action and give Christian the opportunity to display his impressive battle skills and unique ability.   Christian plays on the formula of what I love so much about this series yet also adds a new twist that keeps the book from feeling stale. Readers get the heated romance, the alpha vampire strutting his stuff to prove why he's the baddest, a heroine kicking butt, and a battle in a war that continues after the last page. As I fan, it's all satisfying and the ending leaves me pumped for the next installment. - Stephanie

I honestly enjoyed this installment in the Vampire Wars series. I really liked Christian and thought he was quite charming and a real gentleman. I also thought that Natalie was a refreshing change from a lot of the heroines I have been reading lately. She was very together and I loved that she wasn't constantly racing off and putting herself in danger....obviously danger found her a bit but she really thought a lot about what the right moves were so she didn't put herself in bad situations consi I honestly enjoyed this installment in the Vampire Wars series. When there is a opening for the Lord of the South, he heads down to Texas to become a contender for the position. But there is treachery and deceit that surrounds him. No one trusts him and would likely stab him in the back than shake his hand. Then he meets Natalie, who is working on unearthing the financial schemes from the previous lord Jabril. She may be a distant cousin to the current Lord of the south who is stepping down and return to New Orleans, however when she meets Christian her life becomes more complicated and yet exciting. There is a powerful chemistry between Christian and Natalie. Natalie may be human, but she will fight  and stand by Christian who holds her heart. But there are many enemies that surround Christian, does he have enough power to fight them all? Plot and Story Line  Yep Yep we have another powerful vampire that has been thrown in the mix here and he isn't just any average joe either. Christian is from Europe and even though his previous lord was the woman who tried to kill Raphael in Hawaii, he never was part of her plan and never supported her in it. Christian was different and I liked that. For all of his existence he has never revealed how powerful he is, he has kept it contained and man Christian is one sexy beast. He is confident, powerful, charming and sensual. He is pretty patient though, he doesn't just outright battle his power with the current Lord of the South. He bides his time, because this is a tricky game of cat and mouse and Christian is determined to come out on top. Then he finds his mate in Natalie and his life becomes more complicated. What I liked most about this book was the thrills, intrigue, danger and mystery that is packed in this book. Man, D.B. Reynolds has really upped her game in this book for sure and I just get shivers down the spine thinking about it. hehe We also get some more fun times with Raphael and Cynthia and Vincent. We get a bit of a teaser for what the next book will be and I can't wait!! The romance that develops here is pretty enjoyable and I really had some fun with Christian and Natalie. Natalie was my type of heroine, and boy I liked how she handled Christian. At first, she is out of her depth with Christian, but she adjusts to him pretty quickly and has him eating out of her hand practically. She is a bit quiet and reserved, but can be bold when its needed. Another great addition to a fantastic series!! The Cover  Yummy and delicious, love the pecs and muscle and the purple with the Texas like background is a nice touch too!!! Christian by D.B. Reynolds is the latest in her Vampires in America Series. I love this series more as it goes along. The Vampire Wars are starting. Twists and turns and strategy are strong on both sides (Anthony and Christian). The skirmishes leading up to the ultimate battle are interesting, full of action and the ultimate battle is exciting and written very well. We also get a big hint as to the next book battle at the end of this book.I personally can not wait for this next story, also. Ms. Reynolds is great at world building and character development–two of my big things in reading. Her dialogue is smartly written and the plot is tight. She does not write filler in her books–she keeps her story moving along without alot of extra stuff that doesn’t add to the story. When I found her VIA series several years ago, I was very pleased at a refreshing voice in the paranormal romance genre. If you have not found this series, I recommend starting at the beginning with Raphael and just enjoy the ride all the way to Christian’s book.

Terrific ending to a good book. Christian Duvall is many things great. He brought something new to the West table. His first child who is also his best friend, Marc showed us the bond between a Lord and a child could be more than what it is. Christian Duvall is not a Vampire who flaunts or shows his power and talents to the world, but he hids it well which makes him very unpredictable and powerful. Raphael however, finds out everything in the end and got a new allie., and Christian got himself new powerful friends. Loved seeing a little bit of Lucas in this book. Vincent and Lana's wedding was beautiful that it made Natalie cry which in turn made Christian and Marc to laugh at poor Natalie. I don't blame her. That wedding was stunningly beautiful. The ending revealed what happened to Sophia as she didn't show up in any of the gathering. Whatever is happening to Colin made me worried. Who has Colin? And why. They are messing with the wrong Lord. I cannot wait to read the next book.
